ABOUT THIS CAR
Built by Rally Preparation Services to tackle the 2010 Peking to Paris rally from a very original and solid car for the owner at the time, this car has become quite possibly the best travelled Buick 25X in the world, fondly referred to as Benson to those that know it. The car has competed in events successfully since 2010 with a notable 16th overall on the 2013 Peking to Paris where the car was constantly setting competitive times and always hovering around the top ten which underpins the quality of the preparatory work and thought built into the car. This proving again that simplicity, robustness and endurance over speed are the key ingredient on long distance events.
Buick is the oldest active American vehicle manufacturer, started in 1899 by David Dunbar Buick; a Scottish-born American inventor based in Detroit, and was the company that established General Motors in 1908.
In the 1930s, Buicks were extremely popular with the British Royal family, particularly Edward VIII. It is said that he imported and used a Canadian built McLaughlin-Buick which was GMs top brand in Canada.
In 1939 George VI and Queen Elizabeth used one for a coast to coast Royal tour of Canada, one of the first visits of a reigning monarch to Canada. Designed to drive on gravel roads in America well before the Second World War, this car has the correct ingredients for any vintage long-distance rally car; Simplicity, strength and that all-important ride height.
Having had a full nut and bolt body-off restoration when we built the car in readiness for its first event and then continually maintained by both the current and previous owners, the car still holds up as a value for money along with good fun and reliable vintage car motoring.
