Simon Ayris and the team at Rally Preparation Services are the subject of a major feature in the September issue of Classic Cars magazine - as we are the only specialist for road-type events for Vintage and Classic Cars, it seems journalists are now beating a path to our workshop in order to feature something out of the ordinary. Check out what Paul Hardiman has to say in the issue with three Jaguars on the cover.

Monte Carlo Rally 100th anniversary: Simon Ayris of RPS has been appointed Team Manager of a team that will be attacking the 100th anniversary event of "The Monte" - the Monte Carlo Historique. Peter Livanos, the man who saved Aston Martin in the 1980s, has asked Simon to head up the support for a five car team that will be entering this challenging event next January, in preparing some of the cars and then running the logistics and mechanical back-up for the week-long event. Start destinations announced are Glasgow, Marrakesh or Warsaw. The team have yet to decide which of these we will be
starting out from but having been involved in supporting the efforts last year, it does seem likely that once again RPS will be backing up a very varied range of car within the five-car attack.

The 2010 LeJog see's us handling three cars in the workshop now, a Datsun 240Z and two Volvo Amazons.

Then we have the 100th- annvisary Monte Carlo  Historique preparations, we have currently a Ford Escort and a three-litre Mercedes saloon in the workshop, and recent work by the team here has also involved helping two youngsters prepare their charity-supporting mount survive the Mongol Rally in a diminutive  little Perouda kelisa. While we tend to get a lot of Vintage work, classics are no stranger to RPS. We recently built an authentic London to Sydney Marathon replica Hillman Hunter, to the same specification as the original car that won with Andrew Cowan, for John Lewis and Barry Hawgood who are now  back home after their epic journey from the Ace Cafe in North London, all the way to Sydney Australia. They enjoyed a trouble-free run in ther RPS Prepared Hillman Hunter. This must be for them the trip of a life-time, after driving solo across Iran and Pakistan to India. Check out their website at www.gb2aus.co.uk for the background to this car, our work is listed in the Projects chapter. Attention to detail is what reliability is all about, and the Hunter driving half way round the world without back up is testimony to the time spent in the workshop before it turned a wheel.

Variety takes many forms at RPS

A 1938 Speed 25 Alvis...to Bentley...to Delage...to Buick, Chevrolet...classic rallycars from Lotus Cortina...Hillman Hunter "Andrew Cowan-replica"...to Volvo PV544....to Riley Pathfinder...the team here at RPS has first-hand personal experience of what rallycars actually have to go through, it shapes our thinking from the outset. We often spot what will rattle lose, vibrate undone or fall off when we begin work on the workshop floor...and how to reinforce things. Bigger petrol tanks, reinforced shock-absorber mountings...stronger springs...capped engine mountings...better cooling...under-floor protection, you have to a team of experts here who can do it better because they simply bring past experience to the problem-solving.
